A Return from Hiatus

I can not believe that I haven't blogged in 3 months. I'm a little ashamed.

This summer I shared my #GIRLBOSS studio style, and immediately found myself in some really big (and pretty) shoes to fill. In the three months that I have been missing from here, I feel like an insane amount has changed in my business. And in personal growth.

Let's break down a few:

1. I have hired two new bellas to the Indie Shopography squad.

Meaning that biz is boomin'. We're in some crucial launch phases of several of our IndieBOOM projects, so we've got lots of fab hands on deck. We're also adding a new page to the Indie Shopography site so that you can meet us all really soon.

2. We started an Indie Shopography blog called #HASHTAG.

Just because I haven't been blogging here doesn't mean that I haven't been blogging somewhere. Since this blog is so much more personal, and I wanted to give my team the chance to share more about our time at (and being a part of) Indie Shopography, we decided to start a studio blog. It's fun stuff, ran by all of us, and you can check it out here: /hashtag

3. I cut my studio hours a bit.

I am a victim of my own scope creep. A few weeks ago I realized I was routinely clocking almost 60 hours a week, and I was shocked. Both that I was doing this, but also that I didn't even notice. I seriously love my job a ton. But, I'm not ok with that, so I cut the whole studio hours down to 36 hours a week, giving me two mornings off a week. With usual overages to round up to-dos and play a dart tournament or two, I'm consistently balancing out at 40 hours/week again.

4. I've read a lot of killer biz books.

I recently wrote an Indie Tactics newsletter (which is another place that I've been consistently writing) about removing distractions (like removing all games from my iPhone) to focus on more important things. For me, that's been business growth, and I have been gobbling up biz books like there's no tomorrow. Some recent favorites: Business Brilliant, Essentialism, and Joy, Inc.

5. I'm stepping up my business game.

With this year wrapping up, and bigger even than the push goal that I set for us, I have no plans to stop. A three month break was just what I needed to wrap my head around the future of Indie Shopography, and the future of this blog. We're implementing systems, making goals, and prepping a new rollout for IndieBOOM in 2015. It's no joke.

6. I am putting some serious self-care first.

Apart from cutting studio hours, delegating as much as I can, and taking time to read, I'm putting Emily a little more first than I have in the past. I've got myself a killer personal trainer, wellness coaching with an IndieBOOM client, and I'm racking up on Smashbox lipstick. Today is my first day back after a 5-day long weekend that I took just because I wanted. I'm purposefully getting 8-10 hours of sleep per night, and David and I are hitting up yoga at least once a week. Together.

With all of these things – all of this growth – this blog took a bit of a break. But, as I'm navigating into the new waters of where Indie Shopography is heading, I am excited to re-find solace in this little slice of my internet home.

I'm back.
