Hanging Out – A Playlist

I have a weird relationship with music. It's a relationship that completely confuses most of the people in my life. I'll explain:

I listen to music almost constantly. I'm one of those folks who, even while home alone, almost always has music playing. I play it while I cook, or shower, or clean. I also have it playing pretty constantly while I work. Of course there are times when I look up and realize that I just worked half the day away in complete silence, but that just prompts me to turn on music.

So, I am almost always listening to music. Not too weird, right? I'm a music lover.

Or am I?

The issue is that I never know who I am listening to. I don't know the band/singer, the song name, album, or when it was written. I retain little-to-no knowledge in regards to the music that I hear.

Sometimes I have to get really serious about retaining information when I come across something that I really like. But I really have to mindfully learn about what I'm listening to for it to stick.

I literally have playlists that I love, that I listen to more than I probably should, and can't name half of the songs by name, nor do I know who sings most of them. Absolutely no idea.

There have been more than a handful of times when a friend brings up a great new artist that I've never heard of, just for me to find out their music has been on my favorite playlist for months without me realizing what it was or that it was a big deal.

I am ridiculous.

In an attempt to remedy this complete ignorance, I have been trying to be a little more intentional in the playlists that I create, and have tried to remember each song's name and performer. Ha! We'll see.

Until this unknown time when I learn to learn, I did want to share a current favorite list. It's perfect for work or cocktail hour. It's my hanging out music.

(And – I'll be honest – this is totally a way that I'm tricking myself into remembering. Gees.)
