One of the "downsides" of pitching a blog series all about meeting the team here at Indie Shopography is that I, Emily, also have to participate.
You know, to keep up morale, make sure we're all on task, and to be seen as a participative member of the whole. Bossy lady stuff.
So, question-answering it is!
1. What do you do at Indie Shopography?
Oh, lots of things. Technically, I'm the boss, which most would assume means that I get to do the most fun, coolest stuff (the stuff that I want to do), like getting new clients, coaching and strategizing with current clients, designing cool brands and websites, and coding my little heart out, but it also means that I do some lame stuff like keeping the toilet clean.
It's all in a day's work.
2. What are three reasons you like working here at Indie Shopography?
One: Because it's awesome. I love the job that I've created for myself here. I get to do what I want (minus the toilet) and I've designed the studio the way I want, and I get to make it as awesome as I want.
Two: We make our own rules. Essentially, I make them, but my team helps too. For example, we can't do Casual Friday because jeans are allowed every day. Even yoga pants, if need be. So, instead, we designated Friday to be Freaky Geeky Friday, where we all wear our "nerd shirts" (meaning: graphic tees, usually pertaining to comics) and sometimes just talk for a while about really nerdy things, like Thor's hair in the new Avengers trailer. We don't work by traditional rules, but make our own fun/effective ones instead.
Three: My team and my clients. Sappy, I know, but being the boss lady means that I get to curate everything about this biz, including the people that I get to work with everyday. That curation has ended in an awesome studio environment that I love, and a roster of clients who I love chatting and working with.
3. What is your favorite part of the studio?
The chocolate stash. Or the mini bar. They're tied.
4. What do you do when you're not here?
I love to cook. And I read a lot, mostly business books these days. And we travel a lot, which feeds my soul.
5. What do you need for a productive workday?
A bit of quiet time to process emails and a notebook to capture to-dos. Then a break for darts at some point, to remind me to get out of this damn chair.
6. What's on your desk?
Everything. My messy desk is a bit of a joke around here. It's not bad messy, but it does accumulate things quickly, and I have to spend at least an hour every week dispersing All The Things.
At the moment there are client notes, blog planning calendars, print inspiration from a client, some rosemary essential oil (great for concentration), my ever-present water bottle, and a camera lens.
7. What is your favorite cocktail?
Gin and tonic with lime. Currently obsessed with Uncle Val's Botanical Gin.
8. What is your favorite movie / TV show?
Apart from cocktails, I suck at choosing favorites. However, I'm going to currently settle on The Princess Bride. It even inspired our current studio wi-fi password.
9. What is your favorite website?
I'm seconding Kris here and saying Pinterest. I surprisingly don't spend a lot of time on the internet apart from work, but I do love a good spiral into Pinterest.
